ANDERLECHT, the inexhaustible soul commune
Anderlecht is a wide municipality of Brussels' region at
the border of Brussels city.
Anderlecht could be qualified of "urban-rural community"
thanks to its wide territory (1,784 hectares) enables to
have one foot in the city and the other in the countryside.
Anderlecht is composed of several heterogeneous entities
mixing various types of housing and green areas with many
functions.
The city centre of d'Anderlecht is mostly made of Art-Déco
style houses. Old districts vary between neo-renaissance
and eclectic style.
Anderlecht hosts four garden cities as well as districts
built in the 1950-1960 at the time of entertaining
modernism.
Green areas offer an unusual diversity for a municipality
located at the periphery of the European Capital: numerous
urban parks, two listed seminatural sites, a canal and a
river, an area dedicated to sports and leisure, growing and
farming areas, etc. This elements form a unique patchwork
in the Brussels region. Moreover, the different districts
are bound with a urban disposal called Park-system (green
or blue) i.e. an ingenious set of parks and tree line
streets in the heart of the city.
Beyond the city’s unusual geography, Anderlecht has a
pertinent history: 2012 will be the time to celebrate the
Millennium of the Collegial Saints-Pierre-et-Guidon.
Anderlecht is a "urban-rural community", a crossroad
between city and countryside waiting for you to explore it!
