The closing meeting of the workshop for the European Agreement CWA « “ Guidelines for Sustainable Development of Historical and Cultural Cities – Qualicities®” was held in the premises of the European Committee for standardization in Brussels in October 25th, 2010.

The new referent document was presented and validated. It will be published by the CEN at the beginning of 2011 for any normalization body in the member countries of the CEN .

It will also be posted on line on the Intranet of the AVEC network (private access limited to the AVEC members for their own use).

The national standardization bodies may include the CWA in their standards catalogues (this is a free decision for each standardization body) to enable any interested city to enter the approach.

Qualicities’ brand will then be given on the basis of this new document, what means that a large communication must be done so that the recent users of Qualicities get the up dated version and work with it.

In 2011, the AVEC network and the members of the WS, in their countries will be asked to communicate on the launching of the CWA and its approach.

Historical cities’ and territories’ members of the Alliance of European Cultural Cities (A.V.E.C.) are committed in a policy of sustainable development based in particular on the valorization of their heritage.

To achieve their goal, they work daily with an innovating management’ tool, which they created together within the framework of a European project, co-financed by the EU (program INTERREG IIIC). The European label Qualicities (Quality – cities) is a brand designed to encourage the setting up of sustainable development policies in Historical cities of Europe.

This working tool enables the community to implement concretely the European charter of Cultural cities.

Qualicities’ quality system enhances the development of personnel competencies, the transversal work of public services and the synergy established by the city council with the companies, citizens and public services.

The tool aims at improving permanently the quality of activities, services and products of the city council. It is based on the creation of a good practices’ referent document. It enables the cities to mark their difference and improve the effort made towards citizens and visitors.

Unique in its objectives and its geographical perimeter, Qualicities’ label is a distinction brand attested by AFAQ-AFNOR, a French certification and standardization agency known worldwide.
