July 28 to August 8, 2007 - Young European meeting

The meeting of young Europeans, which was held in Tours between July 28 and August 8, went very well. 50 young citizens aged 15 to 20 came from Cosenza, Pécs, Baeza, Santarém and Tours and exchanged on their own culture, on their vision of Europe around values such as cultural diversity or This event was the first project of the commission "Participation of young citizen to local life". It was supported by the EU through the co-financing program "youth in action" and was labellised by the Council of Europe in the framework of the European Campaign "All different - all equal".

Local associations with skills in the socio-cultural and sports field participated in the meeting to enrich the exchanges: STAJ Touraine, the “maison des Jeux” of Touraine, Profession Sports (APSAT), the county comity for handi-sport, Astronef.

And this is how some participants, under the authority of the sculptor Lydie VIOLLEAU, from Tours, realized a sculpture on the theme of diversity, which was inaugurated in November in the media library of Tours.
Other participants created a DVD telling the story of the meeting and the activities developed. It is now a method tool for those who would like to organize a Youth European exchange.

Sports and cultural activities were also offered to the participants like a rally-visit of Tours, a visit of the château de Chenonceau, canoe-kayaking on the Cher river, a visit to the Futuroscope, an initiation to handisport, etc.

A blog has been created to enable the young people to exchange on their experience:
