5th edition of the European night of the museums

The
fifth edition of “the Night of the museums” will take
place in France and Europe on Saturday, May 16th,
2009. The Night of the museums is an appointment
dedicated to arts and culture, launched on May 14th,
2005, wich succeeded to the Spring of the museums
created in 1999.
During this night, in more than 42 countries, from Spain to the Federation of Russia... nearly 2000 European museums open their doors for free, from dusk till 1 am.
The “Night of the museums” has been created for a long time in some big cities in Northern Europe (Berlin, Amsterdam, Zurich,…) but “the European Night of the museums”, initiated by the French ministry for Culture and Communication offers to open the borders.
The ministry get inspired from the “international Day of the museums” of the ICROM, to develop the participation of the European museums.
This event federates the European museums around a common will to open to the largest possible public, and enable people to discover identities and cultures.
